With over one hundred spirits producers, London is a hotspot for innovation and startups in the spirits’ sector.
Doghouse Distillery, based in Battersea, is a pioneering spirits producer making their spirits from scratch, ‘grain to bottle’, supporting British produce along the way. They buy their malted grain from farmers in Norfolk and they mill, mash, ferment and distil that grain to create their range of spirits, which includes gin, vodka, aperitivo and whisky.
Doghouse recycles 100% of the water used in steam production, packages everything in UK-made bottles and labels, and has slashed their energy consumption by 23% in the past 18 months.
This innovative distillery is committed to supporting British farmers and agriculture while offering local and sustainable options to London’s hospitality scene.
Katherine Saunders, Co-Founder of Doghouse Distillery and spokesperson for the UK Spirits Alliance said: “We are proudly London’s only full ‘grain to bottle’ multi-category distillery and we are passionate about making our spirits with British grain and proud that we use British glass and British labels”.
This comes as new data from the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Powering Communities report highlights spirits among the top 5 food and drink manufacturing sectors in the UK, with 920 distilleries nationwide.
London has 110 spirits businesses – making the sector one of the top food and drink producers in the city.
Despite a challenging few years for the sector, which has seen successive hikes in alcohol duty, the UK Spirits Alliance and distilleries across the UK are calling on the Government to let distillers thrive, and this data highlights the hundreds of spirits businesses that make up an iconic British sector.

Marsha de Cordova, MP for Battersea said:“Hospitality businesses like Doghouse Distillery here in Battersea contribute a huge amount to our national economy, providemuch-needed jobs and give communities their unique character.
“Battersea is home to some fantastic hospitality businesses and it’s important we take every opportunity to shine a light on their hard work and the sector’s role in building a thriving and innovative society.”
Now this innovative distillery are setting their sights on the global market, following the landmark announcement of a trade deal with India, earlier this week.
Katherine Saunders said:
“The UK-India trade deal is game-changing for British craft distilleries. Slashing spirits tariffs opens up tremendous opportunities for Doghouse Distillery to introduce our premium portfolio to millions of new consumers in what will soon be the world’s third-largest economy.
“With whisky and gin tariffs halving from 150% to 75% immediately and dropping to 40% within ten years, we can now meaningfully compete in one of the world’s fastest-growing premium spirits markets”.
