Reacting to the Chancellor’s summer update in the House of Commons, a UK Spirits Alliance spokesperson said:

“We welcome any measures to support the recovery of the hospitality sector, which is a vital part of the UK economy and one of the hardest hit by Coronavirus. It will be great to see people back inside pubs, bars and other parts of the trade, supporting much needed jobs in an industry that is really suffering as it tries to recover.

“Spirits continue to be a vital part of this sector and we look forward to working with the government on further measures as part of post-Covid recovery, such as stopping harmful tariffs being applied to our world-leading products and cutting excise duty. This would reduce the tax burden on businesses while generating more money for the government. It is this approach that will secure jobs in the sector for the long term”.
