Responding to the Conservative’s commitment to reform excise duty, a spokesperson for the UK Spirits Alliance said:
“We welcome the Prime Minister’s commitment to reforming an excise duty system that is unfit for purpose and which is holding back the continued development of a national business success story.
“The UK spirits market has grown in recent years thanks to significant investment and innovation. This has created jobs and generated revenue to fund public services. However, the existing excise duty system has meant we’ve operated with one hand tied behind our backs. It is essential the next government works with the industry to establish a new excise duty regime that generates tax revenue and provides the stability needed for further investment and growth.”
